THE MADRID REVIEW is an international literary magazine, written in English but published in Spain and hoping to connect the Anglophone and Spanish-speaking worlds. I’m happy to be published in Issue 9, out today, as one of several poets on the theme INTO THE NIGHT. It’s thought-provoking. Here is my little piece:
DUSK FALLS ON THE PRIME MINISTER
Dusk fell; he was alone, his aides had left him,
the water jug had grown a film of dust,
the vulgar outside noises couldn’t reach him;
he’d lost his party’s, and the people’s trust.
His mind was like a rat in a metallic
cage, hunting for ways out, as light grew dim.
The men and women he’d betrayed stood smiling
far off, and now the knife awaited him.
