Poets are not having an easy time these days. Two excellent magazines, Artemis and The High Window, closed recently, and less than a year ago Shoestring Press, which had published so many fine poetry collections and anthologies, collapsed. This was because its founder, John Lucas, died, and he is still achingly missed. But I’d like to tell you about a new venture, Bowstring Poetry – look them up! – which is now struggling into the light. Four volumes which were to have been published in 2026 are now ready, and there will be a launch in Oxford on 26th November. Poets ought to support each other and the remaining little literary magazines. I suggest buying at least one book of poetry by someone else and taking out at least one subscription each year.
